Overview
MileForge ("MileForge," "we," "us") is developed by Professional IT Services, LLC. This policy explains what information MileForge collects, how it's used, and how it's stored. The short version: MileForge has no backend server of its own. Your trips, vehicles, destinations, and expenses are stored using Apple's CloudKit in your own private iCloud account — we don't operate a database of our data, and we don't have access to your information.
Information We Collect
- Location data. When you start a trip, MileForge uses your device's GPS to record your route and calculate distance. Location access can be granted as "While Using the App" or "Always" (the latter lets tracking continue while your phone is locked). You can revoke this at any time in iOS Settings.
- Trip, vehicle, and destination details. Information you enter directly — vehicle names, destination names and addresses, trip purposes and categories, odometer readings, and notes.
- Receipt photos (Pro). If you use expense tracking, photos you attach to an expense are stored as part of that record.
- Purchase information. MileForge Pro purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We never see your payment details — Apple handles billing, receipts, and refunds directly.
- Face ID / Touch ID. If you enable the optional app lock, authentication is handled entirely on-device by Apple's LocalAuthentication framework. MileForge never receives, stores, or transmits biometric data — it only receives a yes/no result.
How Your Data Is Stored
All of the data above is stored locally on your device and synced across your devices using your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit framework. This data lives in your private CloudKit database — it is not accessible to us, to other MileForge users, or to any third party we work with. We do not run our own servers or databases that store your trip data.
What We Don't Do
- We don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
- We don't run advertising or ad-tracking of any kind.
- We don't use third-party analytics SDKs to monitor your activity in the app.
- We don't have a server that receives or stores copies of your trips, locations, or photos.
Third-Party Services
MileForge relies on the following Apple frameworks to function. Apple's own privacy practices govern how they handle data:
- iCloud / CloudKit — for syncing your data across your devices.
- StoreKit — for processing the optional Pro purchase.
- Sign in with Apple ID (implicit, via iCloud) — to identify which private database your data syncs to.
See Apple's privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy for details on how Apple handles data within these services.
Your Control Over Your Data
You can view, edit, or delete any trip, vehicle, destination, or expense directly within the app at any time. Deleting the MileForge app from your device removes the local copy, but data already synced to iCloud remains in your private CloudKit database until you delete it from within the app (on any device signed into that iCloud account) or remove it via your iCloud account settings.
Children's Privacy
MileForge is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above. Continued use of MileForge after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
